We are looking for qualified New Business Account Executives with drive to exceed monthly objectives by developing existing relationships and driving new business. Daily prospecting is required. Account Executives manage accounts by working with customers to develop solutions and strategies to match their advertising needs. Advertising solutions include using a variety of the advertising vehicles here at Times-Union Media including our traditional printed products and other media platforms in addition. No day is ever the same and bonuses are determined by the results produced.



  • College degree preferred. High school graduate/GED required.
  • Three years of B2B/outside sales experience required.
  • Possess strong strategic thinking skills.
  • Superior communication (written, oral and listening), presentation and customer service skills required.
  • Previous experience with proposal writing and presentation is preferred.
  • Strong overall knowledge of advertising and marketing concepts.

  • Must be detailed and deadline oriented.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and organizational skills required. 
  • Proficient in computer software programs such as MS Office is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation; possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance. 


Essential Duties of the Position: 

I.   Must be highly mobile with the ability to frequently navigate between the departments of Times-Union Media and off-site production and support services. Must be able to sit, viewing a computer screen as needed. Must be able to operate a vehicle and utilize general office equipment.


II.   Extract workable data and prospects from internal databases and utilize new business tactics to strategically target key opportunities for new revenue and revenue growth.


III.   Must be able to use a PC and other office equipment assigned including but not limited to a smart phone and digital tablet.


IV.   Must submit required reports to management during the time frame required, accountable for all accurate revenue reporting, comprehensive understanding of available programs, limits and opportunities. Also required to collect payment on accounts if deemed necessary.


V.   Consistently achieves and exceeds individual revenue goals by product, initiative and month. Works independently and in conjunction with provided resources to sell new business into TU products, deliver measurable recommendations and increase the number of different TU products and services advertiser's purchase. Responsible for maintaining outstanding customer relationships to garner long term commitments with recommended products and frequency to generate advertiser ROI. Comprehensive advertiser category knowledge, trends and industry research is necessary and expected to be included in all customer discussions and proposals where applicable. Must be able to overcome competitive media objections and incorporate strategies into effective negotiating to close a sale. Complete understanding of TU/ research with effective communication of information to all advertisers.


VI.   After sale completion, initiate all appropriate paperwork including but not limited to ordering all advertising billing tickets correctly, write and submit appropriate contracts and rate requests, obtain tearsheets, invoices and statements for customer, review client billing and correct billing errors and problems, and submit any adjustments during the month of error. Rep is customer point-of-contact for all billing questions, assists credit department in order to keep account billing status correct. Also solves any problems which may arise involving their account list or territory. Proofreads all ads for clients and returns corrected proofs prior to or by deadline. Submit required reports to management during the time frame required, accountable for all accurate revenue reporting, comprehensive understanding of available programs, limits and opportunities. Also required to collect payment on accounts if deemed necessary.


VII.   Active, (minimum daily), use of CRM system to facilitate sales process. This includes information on daily activity and calls, appointment planning, a calendar of all upcoming events, an accurate pipeline and revenue projection.


VII.   Participates in sales training programs and attends all staff and team meetings. Offers creative ideas for discussion and possible implementation. Increases proficiency by working on speculative layouts; handling all types of media advertisements. Incorporate, where appropriate, special sections, promotions and new product introductions into advertiser's proposals and recommendations. Resolves advertiser complaints and concerns. Attends industry related functions and training. Other duties as assigned.
